Neal grew up in York, PA, found acting at a young age, and continued it through high school. In 1994, he attended the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts, where he met Zachary Quinto. Neal received a BFA in 2000 from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama, where he met Corey Moosa. As an actor, Neal performed on Broadway (Tom Stoppard's Invention Of Love), off-Broadway, in regional theatres, independent film, and some forgettable spots on television.
As a producer: Neal worked on director Victor Quinaz's Cantonese-language short film Chinese Dream, which has played film festivals all over the world and was on the short-list for the Academy Awards. He also produced the film fest-winning short Shade starring Patrick Dempsey, directed by Kimberly Williams-Paisley, and produced another festival short film called Numero Dos starring country music star, Brad Paisley.
Neal was vice-president of a Warner Brothers-based production company, working there for three years. He executive produced a Warner Premiere feature film called Another Cinderella Story, starring Selena Gomez. On the development side, Neal was also involved in: The Lost Tomb an animated film for WB, Paramount's Footloose remake, Something Borrowed for United Artists, Late Blumer at Paramount Vantage, Hateship Friendship Courtship at WB, Kung Fu Kids at WB, Fishing For Moonlight at WB, You Wish at WB, A Christina Carol at WB, The Expendables at WB, an FX pilot called Unemployed, a Showtime pilot called Hope Falls, a thriller called Mainline at WB, and To Live And Drive In LA at WB, among many other projects.
Neal founded production company Before The Door Pictures with partners, Zachary Quinto and Corey Moosa, and they're developing projects for television, film, new media, and comic books. Their first project Bordeaux premiered in Bordeaux, France in December of 2008.
