Sean Akers

On his first film, Sean was named an associate producer on J.C. Chandor’s Margin Call – which was named to dozens of Top Ten Film Lists in 2011. New Yorker’s David Denby who called it “The best Wall Street movie ever made.”  Margin Call stars Academy Award-winner Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Academy Award-winner Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto, Penn Badgley, Simon Baker, Academy Award-nominee Mary McDonnell, Demi Moore, and Academy Award-nominee Stanley Tucci.  It was produced for under $3.4 million and shot in only 17 days in New York City. It was released domestically by Roadside Attractions/Lions Gate in the fall of 2011.

For Margin Call, Sean worked as graphic designer for the art department, where he created the fictional company’s logo and assets.  He served as the technical advisor, setting up over 300 computers to work as trading stations, developing screens to mimic real trading environments.  He created the original poster for the Sundance premiere.

Sean has since co-produced Victor Quinaz’s TWV Project and executive produced Blair Erickson’s horror feature, The Banshee Chapter.  He is helping in the pre-production of Chandor’s follow-up feature film, All is Lost.

Sean works closely with Corey Moosa to manage the Before The Door comic book properties, which are published through a partnership with Archaia Comics.  Mr. Murder is Dead by Victor Quinaz has been named to several Best of 2011 lists.  Lucid, by Michael McMillian, was recently optioned to a major studio to develop a feature film.

Most recently, Sean has produced Dog Eat Dog, a short film by Sian Heder.  Starring Zachary Quinto and Philip Baker Hall, the film is a modern fable about pet adoption.  The film, which was funded through a Kickstarter campaign, raised over $30,000 and was shot on-location in Los Angeles.

A Pittsburgh native and Grove City College graduate, Sean has worked in a variety of fields.  In Philadelphia, he taught high school, acted as graphic designer in a multimedia company,  served as a Director of Marketing for a skin care line, helped launch a theatre company, managed musicians and developed his own web and graphic design business. He lives in Hollywood.
